What we collect
We don't run accounts, comment forms or newsletters, so we don't ask for your name or email address. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
Visit statistics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It records things such as the pages you view, your approximate location (country or region), your device and browser, and it sets cookies. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and doesn't follow you across sites.
You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).
Night vision setting
If you turn on night vision mode, your browser stores a small value called so-night on your device. It holds the date the setting expires, 30 days later, and the date moves forward each time you visit with the mode on. It stays on your device and isn't sent to us.
Server logs
Our pages are delivered through Cloudflare, a content delivery and security service. Like any web host, it records technical details of each request, such as your IP address, the page asked for, your browser type and the time. It uses them to deliver the site, block abuse and measure load. We don't use them to identify individual visitors.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to NASA, the National Park Service and other outside sites. They have their own privacy policies and we aren't responsible for them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To ask, email [email protected].
Children
The site is for a general audience and isn't aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top.
